Monthly Chapter Meeting - Action Maps for Better Training

On the journey to creating effective training, the ADDIE framework will only take you so far. Using action maps can quickly guide you through the critical stages of analysis and design.

Action maps provide a consistent, disciplined approach to your whole training design. Based on human-centered design and the pioneering work of Cathy Moore, they help us meet the actual needs of learners rather than the preconceived ideas of stakeholders and experts.

Learn how to incorporate this powerful design approach in our next Chapter meeting. Through hands-on exploration, you’ll walk through case studies and see how to lead your stakeholder discussions toward an appreciation of the learner’s perspective.

Steven Brooks is a Senior Instructional Designer with Public Partnerships. His specialty is e-Learning and virtual instruction, and action-mapping has been integral to his design approach. Steve also led an action-mapping workshop at a recent ATD-Cascadia Conference and currently serves as Chapter President.

• Our Chapter Meetings are a great opportunity to connect with talent development colleagues from across the area as well as to learn something new as each meeting focuses on a different topic related to our profession. Meetings take place the place the third Monday of each month (except December) and are open to members and non-members alike.
