In this chapter event we will define game play for learning and contrast it with gamification. Then we will play games to see how we can use those games for various topics. Finally, we'll look at the advantages and disadvantages of using gameplay for learning. Join us to have a hand-on experience with games, game play and interactive learning.

Upon conclusion of the event, participants will be able to:

  • Use gameplay for learning in ways that meet objectives and create memorable learning.
  • Explore the differences between gameplay for learning and gamification.
  • Recognize the importance of facilitation and asking powerful questions to lock in the learning from gameplay.

Facilitated by: Anna Heinrich, M.Ed.; CPTD

Anna brings 20+ years of experience in training and development and has her M. Ed., and CPTD. She has taught and created classes in topics such as leadership and virtual teams.

Technology and hands-on approaches to learning are part of Anna's trainers' toolkit, but mainly, she likes to have fun when training. When she is not hanging out with her family, playing games or cooking, you can find Anna facilitating leadership programs at Oregon Health and Sciences University.
