Come to the March 27th ATD Cascadia DEIB presentation on Intersectionality.
Continuing the discussion from our first DEIB Special Interest Group meeting, Intersectionality is a critical concept for leaders to evaluate and understand. Intersectionality theory examines how systems of power and oppression overlap to create complex and unique forms of systemic harm and injustice. Kimberle Crenshaw first used the term "Intersectionality" in 1989 to describe overlapping identities.
Whether you’re a talent development professional seeking to embed Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) into your initiatives or a DEIB practitioner looking for peer support, ATD Cascadia invites you to join our new DEIB Special Interest Group (SIG)!
ATD Cascadia member David Martinez will advance our understanding of DEIB to include the following Call to Action:
* Learn more about intersectionality to create a positive learning environment for your staff and/or customers.
* Commit to knowing your biases and actively counter them.
* Incorporate intersectionality into your learning and development programs.
* Advocate and support policies and practices that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Join us on Zoom the last Thursday of the month between 12:00 and 1:00 pm PST.
During our March 27th meeting, we will:
* Learn and understand Intersectionality by enabling participants to quickly get to know each other on a deeper level.
* Promote the understanding that our identity is an amalgamation of our experiences
* Discuss the complexity of human experience versus the one-dimensional concept of DEIB
* Participate in the Intersectionality Activity
ATD Cascadia members have access to our DEIB SIG Slack Channel. Email administrator@tdcascadia.org if you would like to be included in the discussion and resources shared there.
